We are starting our study of Ancient Greece today! There are a few students still finishing their Egypt tests also. Once those are done, we are going to be electing Archons and Kings and talking about what it means to be a citizen of a Greek Polis.
We are doing a Greek Polis simulation for the next several weeks. Groups will compete in events such as theater, building a temple, maps, and our own classroom Olympic games. We will be learning Greek history and some mythology along the way. This is the best unit of the year and I am really excited to be starting it. The rest of the week will be about Greek maps and doing our initial reading about Greek geography and how it affected people's lives.

We are starting our last week of our Egypt unit today. We will have a test on Friday over Egypt and we will be working towards that goal all week. On Thursday, we will go over the questions that will be on the test. The test will be essay format. The students can use their notes on the tests as well as their books.
On Wednesday we will wrap Egypt by talking about Cleopatra and the end of Egypt due to it's fall to the Romans. Tomorrow we will go over some information on Akenaten and his attempt to change Egypt's religion from Polytheism to Monotheism. Next week we will be starting our Greek simulation!!! Looking forward to that! We have finished our study of the Old Kingdom and we have started our week by reading about and studying the gods and goddess of ancient Egypt. We have been exploring the myths of Ra, Osiris, Isis, Horus, and Set and talking about how that might have affected peoples lives and the pharaoh's ability to control their people and stay in power. We will move on later in the week to studying Akenaten and his new religion along with some of the other New Kingdom Pharaohs. We will probably be looking at a test on Egypt at some point later next week or early the week after.
We are continuing our study of Egypt having finished up our documentary today on the engineering of Ancient Egypt. We introduced some vocabulary today and we will spend the rest of the week reading the first couple of sections in this chapter on the Old Kingdom and Egypt's geography. We will finish the week with some questions out of the book.
