Today we spent time going over exactly what will be on that test. In short it will include: 4 oceans, 6 continents, a few seas and rivers, and Rome, Athens, Sparta, Memphis (Egypt not Tennessee), and Babylon.
We will also be starting our work on the first humans and their migration out of Africa this week. Let me know if you have questions about the test. This will be our last memorization test for a while, if not for the whole year. :)

Memorization of dates are over and now its time to memorize places!! It's Map Week! Students are going to be working on World Maps and Ancient City locations all week. We will spend next week reviewing and then take a test on map locations next Friday Oct. 2nd. See below for assignments. If a student (or parent) :) is not happy with test score, just a reminder that all tests can be retaken at lunch if the student has studied for the test again. Test scores are starting to pop on Powerschool so check that out and let me know if you have any questions. Contact the office 222-6600 if you don't know how to get into PowerSchool. In ELA we are starting to study some background issues that will lead into our reading of the The Watson's go to Birmingham - 1963.
We have been studying all week. Test is tomorrow! Study up tonight!!
Some good old memorization to start off the year. On Wednesday we will test our Earth History Calendar and Friday we will test on the Ancient History timeline. Most of the week will be spent studying for those tests. We will also have a Textbook Scavenger Hunt worksheet as well. In ELA, we are working on Logic Puzzles this week. Our fall ELA MAP test is tomorrow!
Here is a copy of the class expectations that were sent home last week. I would like to have these signed and returned to me no later then Thursday. This week in Ancient History we have Mrs. Sievers in the room doing an Anti-Bullying workshop. On Thursday we will continue reviewing the Earth's History Timeline. We will also talk about B.C. and A.D. or as we now call it B.C.E and C.E. We will have a test on the Earth's History timeline sometime next week. In ELA we are doing assessments on reading skills so I can see where the kids are and what we need to work on for the year. The first attachment is Ancient History. The second is ELA.
Welcome to the last first day at DHMS!!!! Most of of us will be in a new building at this time next year, and those that are staying for part of next year won't be at Desert Hills. This is going to be a great a year!!!
Things are going to start off a little choppy as far as instruction is concerned. We are going to start slow in Ancient History with some introductions today followed by a couple of days of Make Your Day training, Code of Conduct rules, and my classroom rules. That will take up most of the week. In ELA, we are going to start by doing some introductory narrative writing, then we need to go through all the rules and Make Your Day trainings as well. I am hoping that by the end of the week we can have our MP3 books checked out and we can start doing some basic reading assessments as well. So not a lot to do at home to do at home this week. Look for the syllabus to come home on Friday needing a parent signature. |
